Next Challenge!
Foreshortening Effects ~ The term foreshortening refers to the fact that when something is coming forward towards you from out of the page what is created is the illusional effect of shortening or reducing its real proportions. So when you see someone holding up their outstretched hand up towards you what you see of their arm is a truncated shorter arm than when that person is holding out their arm sideways when you can see its full length.
It's seen all the time in Anime and Manga, and now it's time for you to have a go yourself!
All Levels Everyone should be trying this, and developing their sketchbooks. (Whether it's a real one, or digital!) We suggest making an added Sketchbook section in your existing Portfolio Thread within the Team Dimension Forum.
Level TwoWorm's eye views, and bird's eye views.
Sketch a series of figures that show a low angled view looking up at a figure and high angled view looking down the figure. (Including a range of positions)
Level ThreeAs with level two but on a specific character. Individually you need to chose either one of the characters from the one-page-strip youve already created or a new character that could be in the extended story line of what you have come up with. As well as birds and worms eye views you should be exploring foreshortened limbs (arms coming out off the page etc). Also you should create a character sheet that shows what the character looks like from all different angles this could be just head shots.
As well as a team effort making a 6 - 10 page comic.
CGersYour challenge is to work on descriptive toning, with lighting as a key emphasis.
Using any number of headshots, midshots (head and torso) or full figures produce a number of lighting effects on each
You can read all about these challenges and ask questions here
